Air Force Tactical Communications Practice Exam

The recommendation for placing the AT420 antenna a distance of two heights of the antenna from power lines is rooted in safety and operational effectiveness. This distance helps to minimize the risks associated with electromagnetic interference and potential electric shock hazards that can occur when antennas are too close to power lines. By ensuring that the antenna is situated further away, it not only reduces the likelihood of interference disrupting communications but also protects personnel working with or near the antenna from electrical hazards.

The two-height standard is a widely accepted practice in antenna placement that provides a balance between operational range and safety. It is crucial for ensuring that the antenna's performance is not adversely affected by nearby electrical infrastructure, which can create problems such as signal degradation or noise interference. This distance also helps to comply with regulatory safety standards related to antenna installations, emphasizing the importance of careful planning in tactical communication setups.
